Prepaid card

A practical way to access funds and manage spending.

The SureNorth program may include a prepaid card offered by a participating financial institution or provider. The cardholder spends the funds available on the card, subject to the limits, fees and rules in the cardholder agreement.

Possible features

  • Receive an eligible disbursement.
  • Make purchases in stores or online where the card is accepted.
  • View the balance and transaction history.
  • Limit spending to the funds available.
  • Receive notifications and manage selected security features, depending on the provider.

What the card does not promise

  • It does not automatically provide a revolving credit limit.
  • It does not guarantee a higher credit score.
  • It does not replace the loan or surety agreement.
  • It is available only in jurisdictions and programs approved by the provider.
The card and credit history

If the program includes a loan that is reported to credit bureaus, the account history and payment conduct may contribute to the consumer’s credit file. The prepaid card then serves as an access or payment tool. Partner documents must clearly identify which entity reports the account, to which bureaus and under what terms.
